Canoers bag four medals in Asian event

TEHRAN, Feb. 26 (MNA) – Iran’s national canoe slalom team has bagged four medals so far in the 2017 Asian Canoe Slalom Championships underway in Thailand.

The 2017 edition of Asian Canoe Slalom Championships kicked off on February 24 in Kundanprakarnchon Dam in Nakhonnayok province of Thailand where all Iranian representatives have managed to reach the semifinal round in all divisions.

In the second stage of the event on Sunday, Iranian canoers managed to bring home four colorful medals securing spots in semifinal and final rounds.

In women’s under-18 double canoe section, the Iranian outfit comprising Donya Mohammadi and Faezeh Ronasi stood on top of the podium to claim Iran’s first ever slalom medal in female category.

Competing in finals of women’s senior single canoe, Roxana Razeghi succeeded in landing the third place and won the bronze medal.

Furthermore, in men’s U18 single canoe, Danial Khosravi, Mahan Edrisi and Reza Khalili formed Iran’s squad who finished second overall snatching silver medal of the tournament.

Amir Mohammad Fatahpour, Mahdi Karimi and Homayun Mohammadpour also represented Iran in team division of senior single canoe and secured a place in the finals where they were given a bronze to increase the country’s tally of medals to a total of four.

Accordingly, Iranian athletes have so far collected four medals, including one gold, one silver and two bronze trophies so far in Asian Canoe Slalom Championships which come to an end today February 26.
